Face Value
What could be more fascinating than a human face? Sometimes it can seem that there is no better form of entertainment, curiosity, history, drama, mystery, love
and loss than what is seen in someone’s face. While I might forget dates, places, and nouns, I never forget a face. Perhaps that is explained by my bad habit of
staring at people. I get lost in that impolite activity and sometimes need to be restrained.
The faces that appear in my artwork come unbidden. I don’t know them; they’re not family or friends. They arrive and sometimes I want to have conversations with them. If I haven’t seen the work for some period of time, I feel like I am visiting old friends.
